MercuryCloud announces the completion of Musicland's "Graze" kiosks
November 2005
SEATTLE, November 2005 – MercuryCloud announces the completion of Musicland’s Graze wireless content distribution kiosks, created for the company’s Sam Goody chain of music stores. Launched in November in the Mall of America, the kiosks allow consumers to browse, preview and purchase content for their mobile phones in a lounge area of the store built around the new Graze brand.
For the inaugural implemenation, MercuryCloud designed attractive motion graphics to draw users into vacant kiosks and set up eight touch-screens around the lounge. Each are equipped with credit card slots, letting shoppers create and burn their own CDs from a library of over 400,000 songs. Additional touch-screens provide the ability to instantly purchase wallpaper, ringtones and games, plus search for poster images, retail apparel and accessories.
The main challenge these kiosks address is that they dissolve the boundaries between separately-sourced content from multiple mobile phone vendors. MercuryCloud helped Musicland simplify a complex network of content for Graze, and blueprinted a plan to ensure the purchase experience would be fun and immediate. The design also emphasizes information and experience architecture to draw users into the multimedia transaction.
